The Almaty Region seems made for enchanting domestic tourism, with its numerous natural attractions. One of them is the Ile-Alatau National Park, with its Turgen Gorge, renowned for its many unique waterfalls. One of the most popular is the Bear Falls.
Its height is 30 meters. The waterfall is famous for its powerful stream of water cascading from three rocks, which were formed from a split during a strong earthquake. The waterfall is located in a deep rocky niche on the southern slope of the Karash Ridge, from where the Bear Stream flows down from the Jambas Pass. The waterfall is called Bear Falls because, according to local lore, a family of bears lives in this area.

The Kairak Waterfall is the largest of the seven waterfalls that adorn the slopes of the Turgen Gorge in the Almaty Region. The height of the waterfall is about 55 meters. On the way to it, you will encounter Chinturgensky mossy spruce forests, growing on moss about 40 cm thick. The waterfall is surrounded by rocky walls and steep, forest-covered slopes. The waterfall got its name not by accident: "kairak" in Kazakh means "sharpener." As you approach the waterfall, you will see that it indeed seems to have carved its way through the gorge.
