The Assy Plateau known as a summer pasture of “Zhailau” among Kazakhs, still hosts many herders who keep large numbers of livestock. Along the way, you will encounter numerous yurts where the shepherds live.

This place feels like paradise! Mountains on the plain with beautiful alpine meadows and the road through the Assy Plateau make it one of the most beautiful and breathtaking locations, showcasing truly untouched nature.

On this journey, you will also see an observatory located high in the mountains. However, you won’t be able to enter as it is a strategic site and the access is prohibited. It’s not crucial though as the day time and night time views from the summit at 2800 meters above sea level are so much more interesting. If you’re lucky, you might witness a parade of stars!
DETAILED TOUR PROGRAM

FIRST DAY:
Departure from Almaty - Bear Waterfall - Assy Observatory - Assy Plateau
- Departure from Almaty (morning), to Turgen Gorge (80 km - approximately 1.5 hours)
- Arrival in Turgen (Bear Waterfall), hiking (2.5 km, 1.5 hours)
- Departure to the cafe in Turgen (8 km, approximately 15 minutes), lunch

- Departure to Assy Observatory (20 km, approximately 1 hour), walking, free time (1 hour)
- Departure along the scenic road of Assy Plateau to the red rocks (50 km, approximately 3 hours)
- Arrival at the red rocks, setting up camp, dinner, campfire, overnight in a tent

SECOND DAY:
Assy Plateau (Breakfast in camp) - Bartogay Lake - Departure to Almaty
- Breakfast in camp
- Departure to Bartogay Lake (20 km, 3 hours)
- Arrival at Bartogay Lake, hiking, free time (1-2 hours)

- Departure to the village of Bayseit (60 km, approximately 1 hour), lunch at a cafe
- Departure to Almaty (110 km, approximately 1.5 hours); the driver will drop you off at any point in the city

Examples of options: On the 1st day, you can see the Issyk Lake in addition to or instead of the waterfall. On the 2nd day, you can go to the Charyn Canyon and have lunch there. It is also possible to shorten the tour and see the Assy Plateau in 1 day.
